Living
Soberly, Righteously, and Godly
|
The Apostle Paul instructed
Titus to live “soberly, righteously, and godly in the present
age” (Titus 2:12). Men today must also live “soberly,
righteously, and godly.” Thus, consider with me the meaning of
this Divine instructed living.
Living Soberly. The
idea is to be of “sound mind.” Each individual is
responsible for using sound reasoning. Folks reason all the time,
but many without sound reasoning. Among the fruit of the Spirit
is self-control (Gal. 5:23). In order to live soberly we must
exercise self-control. We do have the ability to say no to
worldliness. Live soberly!
Living Righteously.
The idea is to do “justly.” Jesus declared that
God’s “word is truth” (John 17:17). Folks are
responsible for doing what the Bible says is right. Living
righteously involves guarding our thoughts, words, and deeds. We
must also be fair in our treatment to others! During the period
of the Judges in the Old Testament folks “did what was right in
his own eyes” (Judges 21:25). This simply will not
work. The wise man penned, “There is a way that seems right
to a man, But its end is the way of death” (Prov. 14:12).
Live righteously!
Living Godly.
The idea is to have “reverence and respect” towards God and
all things holy. Our whole way of life flows from Godly or
ungodly living. Christians must be fully devoted to God and obey
the law of the Lord! Much of the religious division that exists
today is because of a lack of respect for Divine authority. Live
godly!
How are you living?
