Make It
As Sure As Ye Can
|
Jesus revealed “After three days I will rise again”
(Matt.
27:63). This was brought to Pilate's attention, and he
commanded
that Jesus’ tomb “be made sure until the third day,
lest
his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the
people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse
than the first” (Matt. 27:64). Pilate continued
saying,
“ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye
can”
(Matt. 27:65), “So they went, and made the sepulchre sure,
sealing the stone, and setting a watch” (Matt.
27:66). The
following are some things we need to “make as sure as ye
can”:
The
Salvation Of Your Soul.
There are folks who have doubts or are unsure whether they are
saved. Being saved is not something to be unsure
about.
God requires men today to hear the gospel (Matt. 17:5); believe it (Jn.
8:24); repent of sins (Acts 17:20); confess Christ as the Son of God
publicly (Matt. 10:32); and be baptized for the remission of past sins
(Acts 2:38). Have you obeyed these commands? You
can be
sure you are saved by obeying today. Jesus said,
“Not every
one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of
heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in
heaven” (Matt. 7:21). Come today and make the
salvation of
your soul “as sure as ye can!”
That
God Is Worshipped In Spirit
And Truth. Satan
was ordered, “Thou shalt worship
the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve” (Matt.
4:10). God is to be the object of our worship and Him
alone. Furthermore, Jesus instructed “God is a
Spirit: and
they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in
truth”
(John 4:24). To worship God in spirit is to do so with
meaning
and understanding. To worship God in truth is to do so
according
to His commandments. Are you worshipping God with meaning,
understanding and according to His commandments? Let us make
“as sure as we can” that we are worshipping God
rightly
lest our
worship be in vain (Matt. 15:9).
That
We Are Being Faithful To
God. Baptism is not
the end. It is just the
beginning. After becoming a Christian we must be faithful to
God. Paul instructed the Corinthians “be ye
stedfast,
unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye
know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Cor.
15:58). Titus was taught “denying ungodliness and
worldly
lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present
world” (Titus 2:12). We must be “faithful
unto
death” (Rev. 2:10). Are you absolutely sure you are
being
faithful? Or are you living in sin and refusing to obey
faithfully the Lord’s commands? I encourage you to
make
“as sure as you can” that you put God first in your
life!
That
We Are Growing.
How unfortunate it is when a little child fails to grow as he should,
whether it is from a physical complication or neglect of a
parent. Just imagine how our Father in heaven feels when His
children here on earth fail to grow spiritually. Peter
penned,
“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and
Saviour
Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18). It is not uncommon
today to
have someone obey the Gospel and never grow toward maturity.
There are folks who have been Christians for many years and are not
growing. You can make “as sure as ye can”
that you
are growing spiritually by “Meditating on God’s
word,
giving yourself entirely to them” (1 Tim.
4:15).
Let us make these
things “as
sure as we can.”
