The name Christian is the new
name given to God’s people as individuals today! Folks
become a Christian by hearing God’s word (Rom. 10:17), Believing
in God (Mark 16:16), Repenting of their sins (Acts 17:30), Confessing
their faith in Christ that He is the Son of God (Rom. 10:9-10), and
being baptized into Christ (Acts 2:38).
Isaiah prophesied about God’s new name for the obedient one when
he declared, “Even to them I will give in My house and within My
walls a place and a name Better than that of sons and daughters; I will
give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off” (Isa.
56:5). God promised, “You shall be called by a new name, which
the mouth of the LORD will name” (Isa. 62:2).
The Prophecies of Isaiah are fulfilled in the wearing of the new name
“Christian.” A reading of Acts 11:26 reveals,
“…the disciples were first called Christians in
Antioch.” King Agrippa said to Paul, "You almost persuade
me to become a Christian” (Acts 26:28). Peter penned,
“Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed,
but let him glorify God in this matter” (1 Peter 4:16).
In order to properly wear the name “Christian” one must be
obey the Gospel Plan of Salvation as revealed in the New
Testament. The name “Christian” embraces the name of
Christ!
